The truth about an over-the-counter yeast infection treatments

Background

Studies have shown that yeast infection is more common among populations of developed countries-where appropriate, at least partly due to the culture of convenience food. It is estimated that up to three-quarters of the total population of the developed countries the situation may exist in one form or another.

As a former "third world countries" are becoming more and more to develop the total global demand for yeast infection medicines has reached hundreds of millions of dollars. While drug manufacturers are facing an ever-increasing demand, there are still many unanswered questions about over-the-counter yeast infection treatments.

What is in fact yeast infection?

The situation is caused when a specific type of bacteria, known as Candida, are usually all healthy people, is able to multiply out of control.

Candida is normally on the surface of our skin, in the mouth and genital areas and particularly to the gastrointestinal tract. It is needed by our bodies to maintain other unhealthy bacteria in check.

Candida is normally kept under the control of friendly pro-living bacteria and while there is a normal, proper balance of bacteria in our bodies all is OK and not connected with yeast infections that should occur.

Unfortunately, there are some cases that can happen to us all from time to time, which might upset the natural balance internal and allow Candida can multiply out of control. When this happens, the bacteria can convert from a type of dough in fungal form which can penetrate the walls of our intestines. Yeast, bacteria and partially digested food can then find their way in our blood stream and around our bodies causes localized and systemic infections in some cases.

Common symptoms of yeast infection

Common symptoms of yeast infections are sensitive locally, red areas that often accompanied in addition by a cottage cheese like discharge and an unpleasant odour. This is normally encountered in genital areas and orally, but can also occur in the skin Fold or chest.

Systemic Candidiasis may include symptoms above and also General fatigue and tiredness with blurred vision possible. In extreme cases even be fatal by systemic Candidiasis.

Over-the-counter yeast infection treatments

The last two decades of anti-fungal drugs have become available as anti-fungal creams, tablets, and suppositories.

Most of the available treatments are effective in treating the unpleasant symptoms, but very few are able to address the underlying cause correctly-the internal imbalance arising from the complex situation potentially involving a number of different factors.

The drawbacks of relying largely on over-the-counter medicines is therefore:

-Why are only the symptoms
-not the root.
-Use them on a long-term basis can have unpleasant side effects.
-Allow the patient to continue with what can be a very unhealthy lifestyle that actually perpetuates the problem and to contribute to recurrent yeast infections, likely for years to come.

What we really need is a comprehensive holistic approach which will refer to the various issues in lifestyle, diet, etc., and provide a permanent solution. For more information please visit my website.
